How Many Tattoos Can You Have If You Want To Join The Marines?

My boyfriend wants to join the marines. I am absolutely freaking out and Im totally upset. Thats besides the point. So how many tattoos will they allow you to have? Only answer is you are positive...no guesses. I went on their website but that offers no help.

It’s not so much a matter of how many, but rather where they are and how appropriate they are. Ideally, they should not be seen while in uniform. But they can do waivers for that. They take pictures of the ones they have, document them, and tell them they can’t get any more. It’s also a problem if they’re considered “inappropriate”. If they have a swastika on their forehead, it’s not likely they’re getting in.
On a side note, if your boyfriend really wants to be a marine, I wouldn’t push him too hard not to. He’ll eventually resent you, whether he intends to or not, for asking him to give up his dreams.
The FEWER -the better. The Marines no longer encourage men to get them… They feel it looks “Unprofessional”. -And I agree. Try not to worry too much about his going into the Service… -By the time he gets through the training & all, -we should be pretty much OUT of Iraq. Besides, the $$$ & Benefits are good, and he’s gonna look REALLY handsome in his Dress Uniform- walking YOU down the Aisle someday!!!
The US Marines frown on tattoos that are visible on the face, neck or arms. You can have as many as you want, but be careful where they are located. Have him talk to his recruitor also and he will give him a straight up answer.
As few as possible is a good answer. The Corps has been changing the rules to more and more tougher in just the last year, and they’re not done yet.
A recruiter will know the answer at a particular point in time. They inspect tattoos durng the recruiting process and again the Series commander will do it at Parris Island.
If his tatoos protrude or are exposed when in uniform, he may not be accepted. Tatoos below the knee or elbow are frowned upon, as are tatoos that protrude the neck or face.

can’t have anything visible when in any uniform, including gym shorts and exercise clothes. So, it is not a question of the number of tats, but where they are. Neck, hands, forearm, calves and thigh tats are not permitted.
I know they don’t like anything that would show in uniform. Baiscally they will sit him down and show him a paper with a body on it, he will have to mark each area where he has one and the meanings of them.
When joining there are waivers for tattoos. Tattoos that cannot be waived are those that are gang related, on the face, neck or hands.
There’s an unwritten rule of 3…but they might waive them all, but it’s more paperwork for his recruiter.
Once in he cannot get more that would show in PT gear (tshirt and shorty shorts), that is brand new policy this year. If you/he sees any marines with sleeves, they got them grandfathered in (done before they made it official).

Well I think it depends on the person themselves. Some people can only remember 1 and some can remember millions. I can remember like 500 or something around that number. It also depends on if the person likes music. If not then they wouldn't WANT to remember any. I think the average person can remember around 50-100 songs but thats just my guess. Hope it helps! =)
